Group rules

Hello everyone!

This will be a list of rules and guidelines we expect everyone joining the group to follow. We will update this list as necessary, so please check it before each ride.

  1. Wearing a helmet is mandatory, no discussion here.
  2. Make sure to inspect your bike before setting out, remember the basics ABC - Air in the tires, Brakes are functioning properly and Cranks are not loose.
  3. All traffic rules that apply to motorists apply to cyclists, respect and obey all traffic signs and markings.
  4. Signal your intentions, LEFT arm straight out is "Turning Left", LEFT arm bent up (fingers pointing to the sky) is "Turning Right" and LEFT arm bent down (fingers pointing down to the ground) is "I'm Stopping". When passing, especially pedestrians make sure to alert them by saying something like "Passing left" or ringing a bell.
  5. If riding at night (returning late from the ride) make sure to have a front (white) and rear (red) light set-up on the bike or on yourself, reflectors are not enough.
  6. Make sure to ride with the group, after all it is a group ride. If you and someone else (or another group) want to go faster than the regular group make sure to talk/ask the group leaders (Taylor and/or James) and stay on the planned route.
  7. Make sure to bring water (or sports drink) and something to munch on (banana, granola bar, nuts, etc...) so you can stay hidrated and have enough energy to complete the ride (to avoind bonking).
  8. It's always a good idea to carry your phone, some cash and ID, just in case of an emergency.
  9. If riding on State Trails you must obtain a bike pass (click here) and if parking in a State Park you must obtain a vehicle admission sticker (click here). Keep this in mind depending on where the rides take place.
  10. Remenber that group rides are not races, keep single file and only double up when space and conditions allow it.
  11. Most of all have fun!

Kind of an addendum to Rule #4 = Let people know of approaching vehicles by saying either "Car back." for vehicles approaching from behind, or "Car up." for oncoming traffic.
